The Bears of Hallo Bay
In the last three days, more than 15,000 visitors have viewed a photograph I made at Hallo Bay, Alaska. The photo is of two young Brown Bears lazing in the sun.
I am very pleased that so many have taken the time to look at the photograph, because the bears live free in a protected region of Alaska’s wilderness.
I have learned that persons in the Bush Administration now want to take away the protection these animals have been given for decades and allow them to be hunted. This is a travesty because these bears have never been harmed by humans, and because of that, they are easily approached in the wild. A slaughter will ensue when the hunting ban is lifted. And, once again, we see the folly of political influence and it’s manifestations upon our natural world. And there is little I can do except to protest any plan to no longer protect these wonderful creatures.
It makes me sad.
