Greetings from Slovenia
My first day of of photographing the awesome beauty of Slovenia meant hiking up a steep trail before sunrise on a very cold morning. And yes, the 25-pound backpack and tripod worked on my legs. If I had known then how well the Canon Powershot G10 could capture that wonderful morning light, no doubt the 25-pound backpack would have stayed in the car.
And as the days go by, I am more and more impressed with the capabilities of this wonderful new tool. In fact, increasingly I just leave my 1Ds Mark II in the backpack, preferring to use the G10.
These shots were processed from JPEG files on a laptop, so please don’t judge them critically. Now, back to the colors of Slovenia. And, pray that the rain soon stops!

Great start, Bill! I’ll be following these very closely indeed. Would like to see a comparison on the same sunrise shot on the 1D.
Nicely done! Enjoy your stay!
Hi Bill, It looks like you are off to a great start in Slovenia. I came across your site a couple of weeks ago in search of opionions from real users of the G10. After using the G10 for 10 days I too feel that it is a wonerful tool in a number of ways. In fact I have not pulled my high end DLSR out of the bag once since getting the G10. If one pays close attention to praticing good technique the G10 will deliver in just about any circumstance. I have made just at a thousand expósures and continue to be thrilled with the G10. You have a wonder vision. Please enjoy youself and thank you so much for your inspiring images. Regards, Ron E Dobbs in Gulf of Mexico….M/V SHELF VENTURE
Hi Bill,
Have ordered the G10 from Amazon and look forward to getting it
soon, and look forward to seeing your wonderful images from your
latest adventure in Slovenia!
Am thrilled that I did discover your blog, and have enjoyed all of
your thoughts so far!
Happy hunting with your cameras! You have a great eye…
Enjoy!

Hi Bill, thanks for the informative blog and great pictures. After having my camera stolen in China last week, I’ve been trawling camera reviews looking for a replacement, it came down to Panasonic LX3 or G10. Today I went to a camera expo in Taipei and handled both, this and reading your blog has convinced me that the G10 is the way to go. Thanks again and enjoy the rest of yoyr trip!
Bill - I had just recently discovered your splendid photography (actually, while searching for early G10 reviews). Lucky for me because I really enjoy and appreciate your works
I love the Bled lake composition & the peaks sunrise is just breathtaking!
I am writing to you form Zagreb (capital of the neighbouring Croatia) with a suggestion you might like. There is a national park here called Plitvička Jezera (Plitvice Lakes) about 180 miles from where you are now. It’s 16 lakes interconnected with numerous waterfalls are simply indescribable this time of year. There might be organized tours from Ljubljana from local tourist agencies.
Have a nice stay in Slovenia & may the dancing light be with you!
Ivan

Wonderful spot to test out a camera Bill. Any thoughts on dynamic range, seems to be a well missed out theme among most reviews.
Enjoy, but keep us updated

Greetings Bill!
Glad to hear your are doing well - My G7, that I loved, died on a recent trip to north Georgia, luckily I’m getting better with the XSI. You shots are always amazing and inspire me to work on my composition.
Maybe we can chat when you get back to the states - I’m getting ready for a May trip to Kenya and would love some pointers.
Take care and have a wonderful trip!
John
