Hi Graham,

If you mean uninstall the Canon software, then the answer is no. The G11 should have later software that you might want to load. It has been my experience that the Canon software overwrites the older software during installation.

Best regards,

Bill

Hi Bill..
have just come across your site whilst browsing for comments on the new G11.
I've just purchased one.
I had been using a Poewrshot S1Is until last saturday ..when it went on the blink.
There were no G10's left in my local photo store but they were able to get a G11 from Vancouver.
I have a question for you which I hope you will be able to answer.
Do I have to uninstall the old info that came with my S1IS. ?
I have a mac OSX leopard.
......
I.ve been browsing your site all this afternoon long and have enjoyed the variety of pics from all round the world...especially the one's of the Scottish highlands.
I've been a hiker most of my life and the scenes were memories of my countless wanderings in the Cairngorms and the Glencoe area.
I've bookmarked your site and will return for more photographic entertainment. Wonderful way it is, to spend a gloomy sunday afternoon.
All the best and good luck.

Hi Guy,

You made an excellent purchase of the G10. It produces outstanding images. From what I have read and seen, I see no reason to buy the G11. Canon still did not give us a wider lens or f/2.8. Still no HD movies.

I do like the swivel LCD, that would be very helpful for doing landscape and macro photography, but it is not worth it to me to make a change.

As to improved IQ? I will wait and see.

Best regards,

Bill

Hi Bill,

Sods law, canon bring out a new model...!
Just bought the G10 a 2 months ago, feel like i've been ripped off. Is the G11 that much better do you think? or is the change of sensor, and reduction in megapixel going to prove to be a winner.

regards

Addendum--

In the interest of fairness I am compelled to add that I just saw a sample G11 image at Canon-Europe of the same model, different setting. Again, looking for 'krinkle hair' I found it much much subdued, alleviating my dismay, and restoring my strong interest in this camera. Canon would serve themselves well, I think, to replace the lady-with-flowers at the U.S.A. site. See:

I want very much to be impressed by the samples from this camera. When reviewing sample images I always go first to the human portraiture looking for what I call 'krinkle hair'. It's a manifestation of a type of noise that can appear at any ISO, which I think is categorized as luminescense. Whatever, I hate to see 'krinkle hair'. I simply can't abide it and I'm disappointed by the evidence of it I see in the lady-with-flowers photo. I also generally find her appearing 'processed'. My honest opinion is that, resolution aside, my 10 year old 3.2 mp Canon G1 does better at ISO 100.

Hi Jeff,

Canon typically does sample photos at lower ISOs.

Until we see some hands on examples, it will be difficult to judge IQ.

But, I must admit that I am impressed with what I have seen.

Best regards,

Bill
