Amazing Grace

It is a long story.  It goes back eight centuries.  I have been looking for my roots. After 40 years of looking, I found the link from America, to Ireland, to Scotland.  The old hymn, Amazing Grace, which was heard in my house from the time I was born, reverberates in my mind.

And, to think, I have spent four years photographing both Scotland and Ireland, where my ancestors walked. I have to wonder how many of my ancestors viewed the same places shown in this slide show.

Forgive me, the link has touched my soul.

That song pierces my soul…. Amazing for sure. What a glorious set of images. Moving, especially set to this wonderful tune.

I can certainly understand your feelings Bill. My “link” goes back to my grandfather who came to the US in the 1920’s. Now as to your Scottish heritage, those sly rascals have been raiding the Irish coast for centuries looking for good looking women to take back with them. I’ll tell you if they didn’t make such a good single malt I’d vote to shut the place down for good!

    Just kidding. Lovely slide show.

    Cheers!

Bill, I just watched this AGAIN (yes, it’s that amazing) and I’m going to Ireland with my family this summer for two weeks. Do you remember where that beautiful castle and the old boats were? I’d love to include them on my trip. Thanks for sharing your work. What a great way to start my morning!

    Hi Sharon,

The castles were photographed in Scotland. Eilean Donan link is here: http://www.eileandonancastle.com/

Castles exist in both Ireland and Scotland, just Google it.

The whole Donegal area in Ireland is filled with places that treat the eyes.

The boats are from both Scotland and Ireland. One of them was photographed in the village of Bunbeg in North West Donegal, others were photographed on the Isle of Mull, Scotland. One can find boats like these on beaches both in Ireland and Scotland, just look around.

I love the whole north coast of Ireland. Especially the area north of Portsalon. Course, anywhere in north Ireland is special. Same is true of the whole northwest coast of Scotland, a place I hope to return to soon.

    Best regards,

    Bill

    Hi Jeff,

LOL. I must confess, some of my ancestors from Ayrshire were mariners. And it is a long Lockhart tradition to love beautiful women. :-)

Many have tried to shut down Scotland for hundreds of years with absolutely no success. Scots are too stubborn to ever change, thank goodness. Their only artform is making the best single malts ever, playing bagpipes, and constantly making humorous remarks about everything. I love them.

    Best regards,

    Bill

    Hi John,

Thank you. The collection is from a four-year period and covers both Ireland and Scotland. I am returning to Scotland again soon and hope the light blesses the land while I am there.

    Best regards,

    Bill
