I Pre-ordered an iPad, did you?

Well, me and about another 100,000 others ordered iPads in the first 24 hours it was available!

Why?

Well, because.

Review Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS Lens

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS

Yesterday I realized that I had not finished my review of the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS lens.  So, here it is.

For the traveling photographer, two things come to mind — lighter is better than heavy and small is better than larger.

Is the Apple iPad a photographer’s tool?

As an active photographer who travels routinely, I am always looking for tools to assist me in the field.

It was cold in Florida this morning, but that did not stop an Oyster Catcher from finding a morsel or two.

And it gave me another opportunity to try out the Canon EOS 7D and the Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L — a great combination!

I love toys.  My son knows that, and he also knows a great deal about me and stuff I do all the time, like landscape photography. He knows that in many occasions I have used small two-way radios to communicate with my friends while in the field.  Although the ones I own are very limited in distance from one unit to another.

Pinky and Friends — The Camera Kit

Well, after  a terrible amount of gnashing of teeth, and considering in great detail the quality of images, and with some other considerations, I now own two cameras.  Two?  Yep, one for landscapes and one for wildlife.

Geotagging Photographs

For the past four years, I have used a Sony GPS to geotag my photographs while shooting in remote locations.  The unit was a gift from my son and works very well.  I initially had issues with the unit being recognized by my Mac, but with my recent upgrade to Snow Leopard all is well.  One simply offloads the files and then converts them using free software, most notably GPS Visualizer.

Canon Powershot G11 Sample Photos

canon_g11_450

For those interested, some sample photographs done with the Canon Powershot G11 have been published on a Japanese site.

Some of the shots were done at higher ISOs.  And, I must admit, I am impressed with the results.  The clarity at ISO 400 appears superb. I am duly impressed with the shot of the bottles done at ISO 800.
