Stepping Outside the Box

I think we need to step outside the box from time to time and try new ways of showing our stuff differently.  After all, folks like Nick Brandt do it every day.

So, when we have a shot with colors not to our liking, maybe what we need to do is try something bold and different.

I recently purchased a 1Ds Mark III camera, it was a demo model. Got a good deal on a lens trade.

Anyway, the sensor was really really really dirty. So, I went through the Pec Pad and Eclipse Solution approach, 25 times.

And I still had junk all over the sensor.

From Color to Black and White

Recently I was reading a forum post at Nature Scapes about converting images from color to black and white.  One of the commentators suggested a technique with which I was unfamiliar. I had to try it out because I have had great difficulty finding a way to do conversions that give me more control over shading and highlights.

Sometimes we may want to change the proportions of an image, for example change a normal landscape image to make it look more panoramic.  Adobe Photoshop CS4 has a wonderful new tool that makes this possible and it can be used quickly and effectively.  It is called “Content-Aware Scale.” It has more than one use, but in this tip I will show how to simply change the appearance of an image to a more panoramic form.
