One of the things I should do is to shoot video during my photographic holidays.
Now, I try to remember to use my iPhone 5 when something special is happening. Yes, the iPhone 5 produces outstanding video, far better than was available just a few years ago.
Getting serious about doing video involves finding ways to stabilize your camera when not using a tripod. I thought the answer was to buy a small steadycam-like device. I have tried two, both were problematic, especially when I was walking. The two units I tried cost well over $150 each – thank goodness I could return both!
Over a period of two weeks, what I learned is that a $5 homemade DIY rig will do a better job. Check this out: At about 1:38 you can see his latest rig. It works and works very well!
Video helps us document where we go and brings back memories of trips we perhaps will never do again.
Here is an example of shooting with the iPhone 5 during a flight from Nairobi to the Maasai Mara.
Depending upon you Internet download speed, the video may take a while to load.
Documenting what we do is often more interesting than the still photographs we capture. Take my advice, shoot some video when you travel, it will bring back special memories.
